apparently.....

Apparently...If you lose a coin in a vending machine you can put a piece of gum on a stick and poke it in the slot and you'll get it right back. #MacGyver.
Apparently...If you tip a vending machine forward it takes your picture...some security gaurd now has three pictures of me.
Apparently...Swearing in a group study guide video doesn't make people happy at BYU.
Apparently...Eating twelve slices of pizza and then calling in sick to work because of it doesn't get you fired.
Apparently...A 5K is about three miles and I agreed to run one tomorrow.  I can barely make it down the block.

life

Life kinda sucks sometimes.
And it seems to always pile up at once.
So many midterms and so many projects I'm working on.
But so much exhaustion to get in the way.
I start to make a mental list of all of the things that need to get done in the time I don't have.
And then I find out that my roommate thinks that every state has their own time zone.
And all of a sudden I don't feel so stressed.
Because at least I don't believe that.

the f-b

I haven't scrolled through my Facebook news feed in approximately two weeks.
And it feels great.
The biggest reason was that I missed three days and haven't had the desire to catch up.
But here are some more of my old statuses.
Enjoy!
>I don't have a Twitter account, so I just carry around a megaphone to announce what I'm doing at random times. So far I've got 3 followers - but I think 2 of them are cops.

>Yesterday I fell off a 50 foot ladder. It's probably a good thing I was on the bottom step..

>I went for a 6 mile run tonight. The police are getting in much better shape these days

>I'm always astounded by the vast amount of people on facebook at midnight....really? You have nothing better to do at midnight? then I remember that I'm also online at midnight...

>What do children selling lemonade and panhandlers have in common? Everyone tries to avoid eye contact with them in order to avoid wasting money.

every moment matters

I am reading a book titled Visions of Glory.
It's one man's account of his multiple near death experiences and the revelations he received during them.
While he watched his life story in one revelation he had a thought:
"...Our lives are all recorded somewhere, detail upon flawless detail. Everything we do matters-nothing is just trivial. It is all profoundly significant, and life is meaningful and full of purpose."
I have looked back on my life and realized that everything has worked out exactly as it needed to.
I can't even imagine where I would be if I was the one that got to dictate my life.
It all happens for a reason and fulfills a divine purpose.
Every person we meet has something to offer us.
Every place we go has something we take with us.
And every trial is for our good.
It all matters-even the most insignificant moments matter.
I am reminded of the movie The Saratov Approach.
If those missionaries had escaped from their captors when they wanted to, the lives of everyone involved would be vastly different.
The Lord wanted them to wait one more day.
To them, this day was mostly insignificant.
But in the end it was "profoundly significant."
Let us see the beauty and purpose everyday, in even the smallest things.

tinder

I tindered.
(Is that correct verbiage.)
I was at work and "everyone was doing it".
So I went to the App Store  and downloaded it.
And hated myself immediately.
Who came up with such a shallow and creepy method of dating?
I mostly just noticed that my finger got "swipe happy".
And I would either swipe yes to about twenty people in a row or no to the same amount.
And then you match with someone and you're left to converse with them.
How do you start that conversation?
"Hey I think you're hot, you think I'm hot....let's hang out."
(And clearly I don't know how to flirt.)
Then you see someone you actually know....do you swipe right or left?
I think I prefer to meet my men in person.
So that I'm not deceived by filtered profile pictures and cheesy pick up lines.
At theeverygirl.com there is a hilarious description of this strange dating app.
Here's a little taste of it:
  • There is no smooth way to start a conversation with a total stranger with whom the only thing you have in common is the belief that you both are not ugly.
  • It’s okay to dislike someone based solely off of the Facebook friend that you have in common.
  • There is always a wrong way to spell a name. Future parents take note: you thought Craig couldn’t be messed up? Think again: I just saw a Kreagg.
  • Guys have apparently not learned that it might be misleading or confusing to highlight pictures of them with their nieces or nephews.
  • If the main photo is of two guys, the actual guy will ALWAYS be the less cute one.
  • NEVER trust a man who can take a better selfie than you. Never.

the liebster award

Emily over at Confessions of a BYU Babe nominated me for the Liebster Award. My first time winning something and it wasn't even really winning something, but I am proud nonetheless! Thank you for tagging me :) (And go check her blog out cause I crack up every time I read it.)

1. What is your favorite food?
If I could, I would seriously say everything. In elementary school when we had to fill out cute little surveys to hang up in class and this was the question I would proudly write "everything." Now that I realize that's not entirely correct (bananas? Definitely NOT my favorite.) I can give a real grown up answer. I have a top five, but I would have to give pizza that gold medal. Who could do without pizza?

2. What is one thing you want to do this year?
Every year for my birthday I vow to cross something big off of my bucket list. I haven't settled on this year's birthday present. But I hope that by the end of the year I will have finished writing my book.

3. What is the most scandalous thing you have ever done?
Well.....it has to do with kissing. And a romantic little pond. Are you in suspense yet? Good. This will be very anti-climactic for you. While on vacation with the family I used to nanny for I kissed a frog. Not scandalous you say? Tell that to the five year olds.....I was the most scandalous nanny around.

4. Pictures say a thousand words, share a photo that means the most to you. Why is that picture important to you?

This is my best friend and I. Our last year at SUU was spent struggling so much in regards to where our lives were leading. We stressed and worried and cried, but guess what? Everything worked out exactly as it was supposed to work out. And this picture is the sum of all of it. (Also, we are actually touching each other so that's something to applaud.)

5. Favorite hair/make up product of the moment?
At the moment? Red hair dye. All the other moments? I have no idea-I'm awful at being a girl.

6. If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?
Oh Texas, I choose you. I have three different places that I want to live: Texas, Virginia, and Oregon. Texas always remains on that list though, no matter how many times it changes. Who knows why?

7. How did you choose the name of your blog?
It was the first thing that popped into my head so I figured it must be good. Gut instincts right? (Also, apparently it's the name of a movie?)

8. What is your favorite blog?
Oh this list could go on and on. Maybe I should just link up my bloglovin account so you can see everyone I follow? I think I will have to say The Daybook. Because this was the first blog that I ever read.

9. What is your favorite movie quote?
"Don't you know I have had Diarrhea since Easters??" I don't know if this is necessarily my favorite, but it is still pa-retty good.

10.  What's the best advice you've ever been given?
Easy. "If you're ever in a fight just get naked. Nobody can fight with a naked person."

11. What is your favorite blog post you've written?
Probably the one regarding the contents of my purse. Or any that has to do with making fun of BYU.

Now I nominate:
Kathy at Just A Bit of Happy

Please answer these ridiculous questions:
1. What is your favorite section of the grocery store?
2. How do you plan to survive the zombie apocalypse?
3. What is the color of your carpet?
4. What is the current status of your food storage?
5. What would you want written on your tombstone?
6. If you were a worm, how long would you be?
7. Why does X stand for kiss and O stand for hug?
8. If you could only answer one of these questions which one would it be?
9. If you met the president what would be your one question for him?
(Are these questions supposed to be about blogging?)
10. Why did you start blogging?
(There we go.)

it is upon me

The time of change....
Again.
My professor pulled me into the hall today.
She said that all of the professors had been in a meeting and the topic of my hair came up.
She said that they knew I was a little "70's-hippy" type.
And that was OK cause they adore me.
But the public school system might not adore that aspect of me so much.
(not necessarily a direct quote.)
Since I am starting to work in the schools now my hair needs to change.
(Understandable)
To something less crazy.
I'm thinking mohawk?
Since I can't go purple like I originally planned these are the ideas I've come up with.
I need to stay classy, but keep a little crazy in my life.

(Because obvs.)

just a few things

>I am learning Sanskrit. I figured that if I wanna be a true yogi, I gotta learn the asanas.

>I found a way to make it to the top of campus using strictly elevators. I mean, it takes twice as long but....come on! No stairs or hills? I'll take it.

>I found this gem of a singer. Check out this song he covered. It's a beaut.

>I just realized today that I write in ten different notebooks/files to keep track of my thoughts. I have too many things swirling around in my head.

>Rosie showed me this video today that unfortunately reminded me a lot of myself.

the un-adventure

An adventure was supposed to happen this weekend.
But then it didn't.
Anticlimactic right?
My fishing pole and I thought so too.
So here is a play by play of what ACTUALLY happens on my Fridays.
(I don't know why every other picture is sepia.....come on technology. Step it up.)

Apparently I like oatmeal now?

I started my practicum. It was the worst. I spent the whole time explaining to an old woman what I was doing there.

I went to my parent's abode to warm up by the heater before heading back to Provo in my sans-heater car.

Then I wore sweats AND purple lipstick and sat in this spot for a significant amount of time. Because obvs.

I enjoyed me some yoga.

I decided to stop being healthy for a bit and ate Arctic Circle and watched Mulan.

And then I napped. I know that Friday isn't even over but.....the night life will probably consist of the last two things :)

smile

I've been a little down in the dumps.
But I have found a few things that have made me smile.
Like a whole bunch.
I might have even laughed out loud.
>The man eating soup while he's on the elliptical. Keep it up. You're livin life how it should be lived.
>I made muffins and gave them to apartment 102. I said "sorry that the chocolate chips on top are burnt!" And I receive the reply: "It's the Kenzie specialty!"
>Rock climbing. Always. Rosie makes me laugh a whole bunch. And Paul tells funny stories.
>The girls in my cohort. We have a grand time when we try to film ourselves teaching. And when we make a quote book. "Guys. She called me Mckenzie."
>Work. Naturally. Kathy, you are a gem. And Mckay thanks for hitting your head on the door frame and then saying "Ah I almost swallowed my contact!" Also, "guys I think we're thinking too inside the box."
> Hating someone so much that it makes you laugh hysterically (is that a thing? )
>Also, this video of a girl experiencing rain for the first time is the cutest.

stupid ideas

I know what I have to do.
I know what I want to do.
But I don't know how to do it.
I know my long-term goals, but not the short-term ones to get me there.
I know the end, but not the means to that end.
It's so frustrating,
That whirl of ideas.
The ideas are good, but there's too many of them.
And what if I think they're good, but nobody else does?
What if what I'm doing is stupid?
But maybe it has to be.
Maybe the thing I'm doing is so unheard of and dumb that it's exactly what the world needs?
Maybe it is so stupid that nobody has thought of it before until now.
The world is ran on stupid ideas right?
I think that crazy is just what the world needs.
But can I do it?
